Cultural Norms
FedCom culture is a composite of what each immigrant brings to the nation, so Malatorans have a broad range of moral values, traditions, and cultural backgrounds. From this diversity, however, a common pattern of beliefs and ideals has emerged — these are highlighted below.
Equality:
FedCom is an egalitarian culture, constantly pursuing the ideal of perfect social equality. FedCom society lacks social classes, castes, or any distinctions between citizens — all are equal, and all have the same opportunities, rights, freedoms, and political powers. In FedCom, the rule of law is supreme, and nothing is above the law.
FedCom is perhaps the only nation that can accurately claim to have no discrimination of any kind. The culture is highly receptive to all forms of diversity, keeps an open mind, and has no fear of the unknown or unfamiliar.
Socialism / Anarchy:
FedCom culture is predominantly libertarian socialist / anarcho-communist.
Malatorans oppose big government and bureaucracies. The slow accumulation of power by governments gradually robs the people of their rights, and is the polar opposite of traditional FedCom values. We support widely distributed political power through direct democracy, smaller decentralized government with fewer laws and greater local control, economic and military self-sufficiency, the perservation of national and individual sovereignty, and protective measures to ensure the stability of all that makes unique cultures special.
Sustainable Development / Self-Sufficiency:
FedCom supports sustainable development and harmony with the natural world.
Anti-Copyright:
FedCom has no copyright laws, is not a signatory to any international copyright/intellectual property treaties, and has no intention of changing this policy. Malatorans consider the concept of "private property" to be a form of theft from the community. FedCom society shares all available resources with all citizens, allowing everyone to grow stronger and have more opportunities together. Free access to knowledge is a cornerstone of our society, and is fundamentally incompatible with intellectual property laws.
FedCom tradition considers "public visibility" to be synonymous with "public domain" — as a consequence, the entire internet, and everything it contains, is free for all Malatorans to use, in whatever manner they wish.
Malatorans have no qualms about using international copyright laws against those who are bound by them (thus, why this website has a license).
Anti-Capitalism / Anti-Consumerism:
The people of Malatora stand in direct opposition to the principles of modern capitalism and consumerism. The blatent disregard these economic practices have for the limited resources of this planet, and the exploitation and waste these policies reinforce, are unacceptable to Malatorans.
FedCom's unique economy reflects the ideals of its people, and the FedCom government will use any and all means necessary to resist the encroachment of capitalism and consumerism on the nation's economy and culture.
Anti-Globalization:
The people of Malatora are deeply disturbed by modern themes of globalization, particularly the pattern of assimilation and destruction of smaller cultures by larger ones. The goals of a one-world government and an interconnected worldwide economy are incompatable with FedCom's ideals of self-sufficiency and peaceful isolation. For these reasons, most Malatorans strongly oppose the idea of globalization.
The people of Malatora consider international organizations (particularly the UN and AU) to be a threat to individual sovereignty, rights, and essential freedoms — for these reasons, FedCom is not interested in membership in such groups, and does not support them.
Anti-Westernization:
FedCom sees nothing inherently wrong with western culture, but we view the process of westernization as a serious threat to the integrity of our own culture. Westernization has destroyed too many unique cultures in the past, and Malatorans don't want it to happen in their country.
