Multiculturalism: Strength from Diversity
Malatorans believe that diversity is the key to mutual growth, and that the weaknesses of one person or species can be cancelled out by the strengths of another, creating a whole that is stronger than any single part.  Through diversity, we can attain a safer, smarter, and more prosperous society.

As a result, our culture accepts and quickly incorporates anything it deems beneficial, and there is no discrimination of any kind.  The extremely diverse group of individuals (both mainstream and from numerous fringe subcultures) that comprise our population reflects on the manner in which our society has embraced diversity.  The Cytran Project is an extension and physical manifestation of this philosphy, and seeks to create greater diversity than can ever be attained by any other means.
"Third Path" of Civilization
FedCom is neither a "Western" nor an "Eastern" type of society, but is actually quite distinct from both, forming the third corner of a cultural and philosophical triangle — but FedCom is not directly opposed to either of the other two corners, either.  Our society is liberal, instead of conservative, and has many unique concepts not found anywhere else.  FedCom is decidedly not "mainstream", but those new ideals are also what makes our community so strong and closely connected.
Close Communities
FedCom is notable for having a very close-knit community... very much like everyone is part of a giant family.  Malatorans watch out for each other, and everyone wants to achieve our collective goals.  To achieve these goals, we work to better ourselves as a community.  By helping each other, everyone benefits.  If someone starts to fall behind, they are never abandoned or forgotten: others in our community rush in to help.  Nobody ever goes homeless, or hungry, or is ever abandoned by society.  Our community is one of our most important assets and accomplishments.
Mating Relationships
FedCom is notable for completely lacking any institutionalized system of marriage, and has no laws of any kind to regulate who may love who, or how.  There are no "marriage licenses" or similar regulating certificates.  Our government's stance is that such things are a purely private matter, and it is nobody's business except for the individuals directly involved.  Individuals may, of course, opt to have a traditional marriage, but this is by no means required to legitimize any union.  The law remains silent on defining what such a union should be.

Foreigners are often stunned to learn that monogamy (as is the norm in most of the modern human world) is not the rule, and an entirely different system is widely promoted: "polyamory".
Language
The standard language of Malatora is a customized variation of English.  It is fairly close to the common midwestern American dialect, but incorporates some distinctly British word spellings and phrases, as well as some additional words.  Please note that the dialect is rhotic (meaning the letter R is not silent).  Generally speaking, the native Malatoran dialect is quite intelligible to anyone who understands English, and we can understand all but the heaviest accents of our English-speaking visitors.  If all else fails, communicate in writing.

Also, please note that the language is not always rendered in the Latin alphabet, and it is sometime written in our own derivative of the phonetic Shavian alphabet.  The Latin alphabet will most likely be phased out within a few decades, as the new alphabet is gradually gaining dominance.
Arts
Malatora has a rich surplus of talented authors, and also has a small pool of impressive musical talent.  Most of the styles of the arts are adopted from or inspired by those of other cultures, and there has not been much time to develop a wide range of uniquely Malatoran artistry.

This does not mean that Malatora is devoid of the artistic side of life.  Malatoran architecture is particularly distinctive, with its own unique aesthetic style, unlike anything else found on Earth in all of history: an excellent example would be the barryds.

The artistry of Malatora continues to evolve and grow, keeping pace with the nation itself.
